WILSON BROS NIKE AF1 BIKE

September 18th, 2008 by admin (2) bikes

Although this bike came out last year to celebrate 25 years of the Nike Air Force 1 sneaker, i thought it was still worthy of posting up for its visual beauty. Designed and built by London based Wilson Brothers.

Paul Smith Track bike

September 12th, 2008 by admin (0) bikes

The track bike or ‘flip bike’ is very unique. The bike is inspired by legendary cyclist, Fausto Coppi who competed and won the Tour de France with a fixed wheel track bike.

The back wheel of the bike can be flipped with one side being a regular single speed with a free wheel in low gear ratio and one being fixed. The was a popular way of running a bike in the early days of competitive cycling and fixed wheel was faster over flat ground, while the single speed with a freewheel was easier to ride when the stage became more hilly.

To reflect this ‘flip-ability’ the paint on the frame is split down the middle in two colours, so that from one side it appears to be green for example, and other side navy. The lugs are picked out in a contrasting colour to match the classic Mercian barber pole down the seat tube. The lugs and barbers pole are then hand finished with another complimentary colour.

The frames are built in Reynolds 631 tubing and the frame design is also exclusive to Paul Smith, where the spearpoint lugs seen on our Professional frame (used to stiffen the bottom bracket area) have been added to every lug. This will make the bike very stiff and responsive. The spearpoint lugs are not cosmetic and added to the frame following construction - but are hand cut, joined, carefully filed by hand and added to the lug before the tubes are joined, using our traditional open hearth brazing method.

The seat lug area has Paul Smith signature engraved into the top-eye on one side, with Mercian engraved on the other side.

Every small detail on all of the bikes has been specified by Paul Smith, from the exact shade of enamel paint to the colour of the Brooks handlebar tape and saddles.

The result is a stunning bike!

The track bike retails at £2,800.00 and can be seen in Paul Smith showrooms from November 2006.

Leo’s Idea

August 25th, 2008 by admin (0) bike accessories

leo.jpgIf you own a classic cromoly road bike, i guess you would saw off your fork tube aligning with your shining headset.

But if you are a guy like me with long legs, i bet the height difference of your stem and seat will sure to give you a sore back.

01.jpg

This is “Long legs man” bike.

02.jpg

In order to solve this problem, I designed this component to
lengthen your “sawn too short” front fork.

03.jpg

It is made of stainless steel,

Direct mount on your 1″ threaded fork,

Offer a little more height to extend your stem higher,

The stem lock bolt will still be intact inside your fork,

Therefore reduce any safety concerns.

04.jpg

This is how it will look when extended.

With this component you can extend your stem 1.5cm higher,

At present i have extended my stem 1cm higher,

I weigh around 82Kgs,

And normal testing over the last few weeks,

Shows that the stability has been quite good,

I’m confident with the strength of this component.

Gus x Paolo  Creative!!

June 24th, 2008 by admin (0) bike accessories

After having fun played bicycle polo game with broomsticks, Paolo and I were considering to make bike polo mallets seriously, we’ve read many articles about building mallets by ski poles, but it is nearly impossible find ski poles in tropical Taiwan, so we’ve deicide to make it in wood, and dyed it to make vintage look.
After tested with various wood and mallet length, abusing wood lathe machine at school, and finally, we had our first production of bike polo mallets done!
Let’s enjoy the game, riders! hit it as hard as you can, breaking them will give us opportunities to make second upgraded production!

best regards
Gus

Adam x Titanium Allen Speed

May 6th, 2008 by admin (1) bikes

This is a New Zealand titanium Allen Speedframe (produced in Taiwan!!)
which is a unique TT design that won the world champs in ‘96, till the
controlling body outlawed against triangulated top tubes. I love the
aggressive geometry which i made more radical by changing front fork and
wheel out to a 650C. It is actually very comfortable to ride, i find it
rarely necessary to get out of the saddle (since your nearly standing up
anyway!). Components of interest are the back wheel which is also a NZ
made item called a ‘Lollipop’ from the early 90’s. It is some sort of
carbon/foam construction, the whole thing is completely flat and is 20mm
thick. The bars and stem are a Cinelli integrated unit i found on ebay,
stripped the powder coating off and polished up. The front calliper is a
way cool DuraAce AX from the late 80’s/90’s, which is art itself. The
cranks are an old banged up set of Campy Chorus i stripped back, drilled
some holes in and polished up. Being a time trial bike it had absolutely
vertical drop outs which left me with no means of chain adjustment so
after much scratching of the head and balls i came up with an eccentric
adaptor which involved cutting the axle down to 120mm so it finished 5mm
inside the frame. The adaptor provides some useful adjustment by
loosening the skewer and rotating the outer adaptor.

Adam
